OCALA, Fla. - Lydia Ko is one round from potentially making golf history. The 17-year-old New Zealander birdied five consecutive holes and shot a 7-under 65 in the third round of the Coates Golf Championship on Friday to take the outright lead in the LPGA Tours season opener. If she hangs on Saturday, she would become the youngest golfer — male or female — to be ranked No. 1 in the World Golf Rankings.I really havent thought about it, Ko said. Like Ive always said, the rankings come after the results in each tournament. It would be great and it would be a huge honour to be in that position, but weve still got another long, 18 holes to go, and you never know whats going to happen in those holes.Second-round leader Ha Na Jang was a stroke back at 13-under 203 after a 1-under 71 Friday. Fellow South Korean Na Yeon Choi shot a 6-under 66 and was two back at 12 under.American Stacy Lewis (70) was 10 under, one stroke ahead of Amy Yang (65), Jessica Korda (69) and Austin Ernst (70).Michelle Wie and Cheyenne Woods both shot 73 in the third round and fell further back in the 77-player field at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club. All of them are chasing Ko, who is chasing history as well as her sixth career LPGA victory. There are so many great players that are like one to four shots (back), Ko said. You just never know whats going to happen. Im just going to concentrate on my game, stay really positive and if somebody else shoots a much bigger score than I do, I cant really do much about it. Im just going to focus and hopefully Ill be able to shoot a good score (Saturday).By mid-afternoon Friday, much of the focus had turned to Ko. She three-putted Nos. 10 and 11 to start the back nine, falling four strokes behind leader Jang. Ko slammed her putter into her bag and mumbled to herself, OK, youve got to start working again. She outplayed everyone on the course from there, showing the poise of a tour veteran instead of the nerves of a teenager.Shes acting more mature than 17 years old, like at least 25, said Choi, who played a practice round with Ko near Orlando last week. Shes so mature. Sometimes, when were having dinner or lunch, shes 17 years old. She likes to eat some chocolate or ice cream or that kind of stuff. But on the course or on the range, when she has a golf club, I think she totally changes, Choi added. It showed when she responded to those consecutive bogeys with a lengthy birdie run.It started at the par-5 12th, one of eight tribute holes modeled after some of the most famous courses from around the world. Its a replica of the third and final leg of Amen Corner at Augusta National. She nearly reached the 12th green in two and then chipped it close. She followed that by hitting a hybrid from the 13th fairway to 3 feet and made the putt.Ko sank a 20-footer for birdie on the 14th, drained an 8-footer on No. 15 and then notched her 11th one-putt of the round with a 6-footer at the 16th.She had a chance to make it six in row at after hitting a 6-iron to 8 feet at 17, but her putt came up short. She babied another relatively short putt at 18.I just didnt want to ram it by, she said. I was a little tentative there. I just have to stay in that concentrated mood, I guess.Ko can finish second or third Saturday and still supplant Inbee Park, who is tied for 17th at 3 under, as the worlds No. 1 player. It would be the latest feat on Kos growing resume, which includes winning the inaugural Race to the CME Globe, which included a $1 million bonus last season, and becoming the youngest to win the tours rookie of the year award. Now, she has a chance to really make a mark. Its never over until you pull the glove out of your pocket and put it in your bag, Ko said. Youve just got to concentrate until the last moment. Custom Detroit Pistons Jerseys . 1. AMIR JOHNSON: Nice to see him back in the lineup Tuesday night in Washington DC. Then he was benched, forced to watch a rookie take his job. It has made this season one of Lockers toughest challenges. If that wasnt enough, due to an injury to rookie Zach Mettenberger, Locker is once again Tennessees starter. But with three games left this season and on his contract, Locker doesnt see it as an audition for another team — to him, its simply another chance to play with his teammates.Definitely I think that when you get caught up spending too much time on the future, you forget to cherish the moments that you have right now right in front of you, and thats what Im excited about, Locker said. I built a lot of relationships in this locker room, and ... Im looking forward to the opportunity to compete with these guys to end out the year.Locker was drafted eighth overall in 2011 to be the Titans quarterback for years to come. Injuries keeping him off the field, including two in the span of three games, prompted first-year coach Ken Whisenhunt to switch to the rookie Zach Mettenberger. But the rookie aggravated a sprained right shoulder last week when sacked for the fifth time. Whisenhunt and Mettenberger both say they hope the rookie can play again this season with time running out. So barring an impressive recovery, its Lockers time once again.Locker isnt rusty, having finished the last two games once Mettenberger was hurt. For the season, Locker has thrown for 936 yards completing 59.3 per cent of his passes with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also has been sacked 14 times, including three after replacing Mettenberger in last weeks 36-7 loss to the Giants.Titans offensive co-ordinator Jason Michael said Thursday that Locker never batted an eye since being benched, and the coach ccredited Lockers professionalism for how he helped Mettenberger as the backup.ddddddddddddWith the Titans offensive line bruised and battered with both tackles missing the last two games, Lockers mobility could be a big advantage Sunday against the New York Jets (2-11). Left tackle Taylor Lewan couldnt practice Thursday with a sprained left ankle, while right tackle Michael Ohers left toe is so bad he got a second opinion Tuesday. We probably wont know for sure until Saturday whos going to actually line up for us, Whisenhunt said.Locker still ranks third in rushing for the Titans running 20 times for 135 yards despite not playing seven games. He ran only three times last year when the Titans beat the Jets 38-13, but Locker threw for three touchdowns. Jets coach Rex Ryan says he had been hoping to see the rookie quarterback rather than the very athletic Locker. He really carved us up, Ryan said. Again, we havent forgotten that, thats for sure.Locker had to be taken off the field on a stretcher with an injured hip and knee after bouncing between Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples. Locker is feeling very healthy right now and will be ready to run.Its something that God gifted me with, and when the opportunity presents itself Im going to take advantage of that, Locker said. So maybe itll slow their rush down a little bit. If so, thatd be something that is hopefully beneficial for us.Notes: S Michael Griffin (back) returned to practice Thursday, though he was limited along with OT Byron Stingily (ankle) and WR Kendall Wright (right hand). LB Kam Wimbley (left hamstring) and S Daimion Stafford also did not practice.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Teresa M.
